For schools & assessors
Individual literacy support for pupils, alongside your school and assessment work
I'm Natalie, a dyslexia specialist in Pocklington. This page explains who the support suits, how it works in school, and how families can be referred.
Who I am
Qualifications and experience
I have worked with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities for 15 years, across primary, secondary and specialist settings, including NHS children's speech and language therapy and Local Authority educational psychology.
I am dyslexic myself, and I deliver 1-1 structured literacy intervention using the Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme (DALP).

Who the support suits
Pupils aged 7–16 with literacy difficulties
- Pupils aged 7–16 who are finding reading and spelling hard, with or without a diagnosis of dyslexia.
- Weekly, hour-long, individual sessions, using the DALP.
- The first session includes a placement screening to identify gaps and set a targeted plan. A diagnosis or a separate assessment is not needed first.
- A Learning Needs Assessment (ages 6–16) is also available, with a written report within two weeks. It is not a dyslexia diagnosis. I share a report with school only with parental permission.
Prices and terms for families are on Support & prices.
How it works in school
Two ways sessions can happen
Parent-funded sessions hosted at school
- A parent or carer books and pays me directly, on the published terms.
- Sessions take place during the school day, subject to the school's agreement and a suitable quiet room.
- I follow the school's visitor and safeguarding procedures.
- I work with the family and school to find a time that suits everyone. If the school cancels or cannot host a session, there is no charge to the family and I rearrange it.
School-funded sessions
- A school can fund sessions for a pupil directly.
- Scope, reporting and price are agreed with the school, in writing, before sessions start.
Progress and sharing
How progress is reviewed and shared
Progress is reviewed at regular intervals, and I keep parents updated on what we are working on and how each session has gone.
I will only share information with school, or discuss it with school staff, if the parent or carer has given permission on the booking form.
Every six weeks I write a short progress update. With the parent or carer's permission, school receives a copy.
For assessors
When a family needs continuing intervention
If you assess children and a report recommends ongoing literacy intervention, families can be referred to me. I would be glad to discuss the areas I cover and where families are finding gaps.
I do not currently offer diagnostic assessments. They are planned for 2027.
I work within about 20 miles of Pocklington, including York, Market Weighton, Driffield and Beverley.
What SENDCos say
Working with schools
"I am extremely happy with the support and approaches used by Natalie when helping us to support pupils at our school. I would strongly recommend Natalie and her fantastic skill set. She was sensitive to our pupils' needs, and her reports have allowed us to support our pupils in the best possible way."
"Natalie provides a calm, professional and child-centred approach when working with pupils, carrying out individual assessments to help identify specific areas of need and inform appropriate next steps. Her work supports schools in developing a clearer understanding of learners' strengths and barriers, ensuring that pupils receive the right support at the right time. She builds strong rapport with children, creating an environment where they feel at ease and able to engage fully throughout the assessment process. Schools value her clear insights and the practical value of her findings in supporting effective provision planning."
